## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 10, 2004 U.S. CIVIL REGISTERED AIRCRAFT (N27JM) A MAULE M-4-210C LANDED AT THE GAINESVILLE REGIONAL AIRPORT, FLORIDA ON RUNWAY 6 AT 11:10 LOCAL TIME. AFTER TOUCHDOWN, THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER, TAIL OVER NOSE, COMING TO REST UPSIDE-DOWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO EITHER OCCUPANT. PILOT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER, WHOM HE WAS GIVING A FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHT TO, WAS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE LANDING CHARACTERISTICS OF A CONVENTIONAL LANDING GEAR AIRCRAFT. THE PASSENGER DEPRESSED THE BRAKES UPON TOUCHDOWN CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO FLIP OVER, LEADING TO THE LOSS OF CONTROL, AND THE SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL04CA182](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL04CA182), Sep 10, 2004: Maule M4-210C (N270JM), Gainesville, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot-rated passenger's inadvertent interference with the flight controls during landing, which resulted in a loss of control and the airplane nosed over.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
