## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT HOWARD W. KLINE WAS ENROUTE FROM FT. MYERS, FL TO AUBURN, IN, OPERATING AS PILOT IN COMMAND OF MOONEY 9158V, WHEN AT APPROXIMATELY 1530 EST, THE PILOT STATES HE LOST ALL ELECTRIC POWER. HE WAS UNABLE TO LOWER THE LANDING GEAR ELECTRICALLY DUE TO LOSS OF POWER. AT THIS TIME HE ATTEMPTED TO USE THE EMERGENCY MANUAL EXTENSION PROCEDURES. HE STATES THAT HE FOLLOWED THE CHECKLIST BUT NOTICED THAT AS HE CRANKED THE GEAR HANDLE HE DID NOT FEEL ANY INCREASE IN TENSION. HE MADE A NUMBER OF LOW PASSES OVER THE AIRPORT HOPING THAT SOMEONE WOULD VERIFY THE STATUS OF HIS GEAR. HE PREPARED FOR A GEAR UP LANDING, AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND DAMAGE WAS MINOR. MAINTENANCE INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT ELECTRICAL FAILURE RESULTED FROM A BROKEN ALTERNATOR BELT THAT WAS CUT BY A LOOSE BAFFLE SECTION. THE PILOT STATED THAT ALTHOUGH HE FOLLOWED THE CHECKLIST DURING EMERGENCY GEAR EXTENSION, HE FAILED TO PUSH THE PIN IN ALL THE WAY. AS A RESULT THE GEAR EXTENSION HANDLE DID NOT ENGAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
