## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SEPTEMBER 12, 2004, AT APPROXIMATELY 0900 MDT, AERONCA 7GCBC, N9657S, SERIAL NUMBER 66, SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT ON A PRIVATE STRIP 4 MILES EAST AND 10 MILES NORTH OF MULLEN, NEBRASKA. THE PIC, AND SOLE OCCUPANT, REPORTED GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS FROM THE SSE DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT ON THE GRASS RUNWAY 090. THE PIC FURTHER REPORTED THAT THE GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS BEGAN TO LEFT THE LH WING. CROSS CONTROLS AND BRAKING COULD NOT PREVENT THE AIRCRAFT FROM NOSING OVER ONTO ITS BACK. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI04CA242](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI04CA242), Sep 12, 2004: Aeronca Champion 7GCBC (N9657S), Mullen, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: the failure of the pilot to maintain direction control during gusty wind conditions on landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
