## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT (CLYDE E. SHIELDS) STATED HE HAD NOT FLOWN FOR APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS. HE WANTED TO RETRAIN HIMSELF BY FLYING APPROXIMATELY 1 HOUR EACH DAY OF THE WEEK. HIS FIRST FLIGHT WAS ON MONDAY, SEPT. 13, 2004. ON SEPT. 15, 2004 AT 1726 HRS, MR. SHIELDS, WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT BRAWLEY (BWC) AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITH THE GEAR UP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO MR. SHIELDS WHO WAS THE ONLY INDIVIDUAL ON BOARD. MR. SHIELDS DID SAY HE DID NOT REMEMBER MOVING THE GEAR HANDLE TO LOWER THE GEAR. (THE REPORTING INSPECTOR CALLED THE AIRPORT MANAGER AT BWC, RICHARD KLEMM, WHO LOOKED AT THE AIRCRAFT. HE SAID THE GEAR HANDLE HAD BEEN MOVED TO LOWER THE GEAR BUT IT APPEARED IT MAY HAVE BEEN MOVED AFTER THE AIRCRAFT HAD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND). MR. SHIELDS DID STATE THAT HE MAY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO LOWER THE GEAR AS THE AIRCRAFT CAME IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND. HE SAID HE DID NOT LOOK FOR THE THREE GREEN LIGHTS INDICATING THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED. HE ALSO STATED HE DID NOT HAVE HIS CHECKLIST IN FRONT OF HIM. SINCE THIS IS AN OPERATIONS ISSUE, THIS INCIDENT WILL BE TURNED OVER TO THE SAN FSDO OPERATIONS UNIT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
