## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 3 AT THE MINUTE MAN (STOW) AIRPORT THE AIRPLANE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE WIND IN THE AREA HAD BEEN LIGHT AND VARIABLE ALL DAY. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE ALTITUDE THE AIRPLANE REACHED BEFORE THE POWER LOSS OCCURRED. HE COULD NOT DETERMINE WHETHER IT WAS A PARTIAL OR A COMPLETE POWER LOSS. HE TURNED LEFT TO A FAVORABLE LANDING AREA AND REPORTED THAT THE WING DROPPED AS HE WAS LOOKING DOWN. THE AIRPLANE MADE A SWATH THROUGH THE TREES AT APPROXIMATELY A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. THE AIRPLANE ENDED UP IN TREES WITH ONLY THE NOSE COWLING TOUCHING THE GROUND. THERE WAS NO FIRE BEFORE OR AFTER THE CRASH. BOTH OCCUPANTS EXITED THE AIRPLANE WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. THE CAUSE OF THE POWER FAILURE OF THE ROTAX 912 ENGINE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED.
