## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT STATED HE UNINTENTIONALLY TOOK OFF WITH HIS FUEL SELECTOR ON THE HEADER TANK WHICH CONTAINED APPROXIMATELY 4 GAL. OF FUEL INSTEAD OF THE MAIN TANKS. THE ENGINE QUIT AFTER APPROXIMATELY 0.5 HRS OF FLIGHT AND THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER SWITCHING TO THE MAIN TANK. HE THEN INTENTIONALLY EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FARM FIELD WITH THE LANDING GEAR IN THE RETRACTED POSITION. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED ONLY MINOR DAMAGE DURING THE LANDING. ON SCENE INVESTIGATION INDICATED THE HEADER TANK DID NOT CONTAIN FUEL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
