## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N894AA A 727-200 AIRCRAFT OPERATED BY THE US MARSHALL SERVICE (PUBLIC USE) WAS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING A TIRE CHANGED ON THE LH MAIN GEAR. AFTER THE TIRE HAD BEEN REMOVED THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE ASPHALT WAS SINKING UNDER THE JACK. IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE GEAR FROM SINKING FURTHER THE CREW DEFUELED AND RE-DISTRIBUTED THE REMAINING FUEL TO THE CENTER TANK. THESE ACTIONS FAILED, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT PLACED LIFTING BAGS UNDER THE LH WING AS A PRECAUTIONARY MEASURE. THE GEAR CONTINUED TO SINK UP TO THE AXLES, AND WITH THE SHIFT IN WEIGHT AFT THE AIRCRAFT FINALLY SETTLED TAIL FIRST DOWN TO THE ROTATION SKID PLATE, THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE WAS 7 FEET IN THE AIR. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED, AND THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED MINOR DAMAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
