## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A PRACTICE HYDRAULICS OFF APPROACH TO LANDING, WITH THE TRAINEE AT THE CONTROLS, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO TURN LEFT JUST PRIOR TO TOUCHDOWN. THE TRAINOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND DIRECTED THE TRAINEE TO TURN ON THE HYDRAULICS. THE TRAINEE ASKED HOW TO DO THAT AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE COLLECTIVE CONTROL. BEFORE THE HYDRAULICS WERE RESTORED THE AIRCRAFT SPUN 360 DEGREES TO THE LEFT AND DRIFTED FORWARD APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET AND TO THE LEFT APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN IN A VERY NOSE LOW ATTITUDE AND BECAME AIRBORNE AGAIN. THE TRAINOR RECOVERED CONTROL AND LANDED NORMALLY WITH THE HYDRAULICS OFF. THE HYDRAULICS CAME ON AS THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN. THE PILOTS INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT FOR DAMAGE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE NOSE WAS CRACKED. NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS NOTED. THE TRAINOR THEN RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO HOUSTON'S HOBBY AIRPORT (HOU).

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
