## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER TOUCHDOWN ON LANDING AT THE FRANKLIN COUNTY AIRPORT AT SEWANEE, TN, THE NOSEWHEEL LINKAGE FAILED BASED UPON TIRE MARK EVIDENCE. THE AIRCRAFT VEERED SHARPLY TO THE LEFT OFF THE RUNWAY SURFACE TOWARD TWO AIRCRAFT TIED DOWN IN THE PARKING AREA. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TO REGAIN CONTROL WITH RIGHT RUDDER APPLICATION FOLLOWED BY RIGHT MAIN WHEEL BRAKING WITHOUT SUCCESS. HE ATTEMPTED FULL POWER APPLICATION TO PREVENT COLLISION WITH THE PARKED AIRCRAFT WITH ONLY PARTIAL SUCCESS AFTER BECOMING AIRBORNE. THE LEFT WING OF HIS AIRCRAFT CONTACTED THE VERTICAL FIN OF A PARKED CESSNA 177 JUST ABOVE THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER REMOVING IT'S ENTIRE VERTICAL FIN. THE IMPACT ALSO CAUSED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING OF HIS OWN AIRCRAFT APPROXIMATELY FOUR FEET INBOARD OF THE WING TIP. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO STOP HIS AIRCRAFT FOLLOWING THE COLLISION IN A GRASSY AREA WEST OF THE RUNWAY FOLLOWING THE COLLISION WITHOUT ADDITIONAL DAMAGE. THE SEVERED VERTICAL FIN OF THE CESSNA 177 MADE CONTACT WITH THE EMPENNAGE OF A PARKED CESSNA 182 AFTER IMPACT. THE CESSNA 182 WAS LATER INSPECTED BY AN A&P AND DETERMINED TO BE AIRWORTHY.
