## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N191AS, AN ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TAILWIND W-8, LOST RPM AND OIL PRESSURE DURING CRUISE FLIGHT. THE PILOT HAD DEPARTED CRETE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT WHEN THE AIRCRAFT LOST RPM AND OIL PRESSURE. HE LANDED IN A FIELD, AND THE MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED ON ROLL OUT DUE TO RISING TERRAIN. THE PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT, WAS UNINJURED. INVESTIGATION BY THE PILOT-BUILDER DISCLOSED THAT THE OIL HOSE FROM THE ENGINE TO THE OIL COOLER HAD BECOME DISCONNECTED AT THE OIL COOLER END, AND THE OIL WAS LOST.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA036](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA036), Nov 24, 2004: Spaulding Tailwind W-8 (N191AS), Davey, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to the loss of oil pressure as a result of the pilot's failure to properly install the oil line to the oil cooler. A factor was the rough terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
