## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT BEGAN RECEIVING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION IN AUGUST. AFTER HIS FIFTH SUPERVISED SOLO FLIGHT IN THE CESSNA 172, AN FBO EMPLOYEE NOTED A KNOT ON THE SIDE OF THE NOSE TIRE. FURTHER INVESTIGATION DISCLOSED DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR SUPPORT STRUCTURE. EVEN THOUGH THE STUDENT PILOT PERFORMED THE LAST TWO FLIGHTS OF THE AIRCRAFT, IT IS UNKNOWN WHEN THE DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT ACTUALLY OCCURRED. ACCORDING TO THE OWNER OF THE FBO, IF HIS EMPLOYEE HAD NOT NOTICED THE KNOT ON THE TIRE, THE DAMAGE TO THE NOSE GEAR SUPPORT STRUCTURE WOULD HAVE BEEN HARD TO SEE AS IT WAS INSIDE THE ENGINE COWLING. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
