## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON DECEMBER 1, 2004, AT APPROXIMATELY 1420 CENTRAL STANDARD TIME, A PIPER PA-24-250 SINGLE-ENGINE AIRPLANE, N7706P, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING A FORCED LANDING FOLLOWING A LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DURING TAKEOFF AND INITIAL CLIMB FROM THE PECAN PLANTATION AIRPORT (0TX1), NEAR GRANBURY, TX. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SUFFERED SERIOUS INJURIES. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA^ WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT OF THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRPLANE WAS REGISTERED TO AND OPERATED BY THE PILOT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND A FLIGHT PLAN WAS NOT FILED FOR THE 14 CFR PART 91 FLIGHT. THE PLANNED DESTINATION WAS SHERMAN, TEXAS. N7706P DEPARTED RUNWAY 18 AT THE PECAN PLANTATION AIRPORT (0TX1) AND STARTED A LEFT TURN WHEN THE AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AND THE PILOT INITIATED A FORCED LANDING TO AN ADJACENT FIELD LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE SOUTHEAST OF THE AIRPORT WITHING A RESIDENTIAL AREA. THE AIRPLANE STRUCK TREES APPROXIMATELY 35 FEET IN HEIGHT BEFORE IMPACTING TERRAIN. INSPECTION OF THE FUEL TANKS REVEALED THAT THERE WAS NO VISIBLE FUEL IN THE LEFT MAIN. ALL OTHER TANKS CONTAINED FUEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05LA026](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05LA026), Dec 1, 2004: Piper PA-24-250 (N7706P), Granbury, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to fuel starvation. Contributing factors were the pilot's inadequate preflight planning/preparation, and the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
