## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AN EYEWITNESS STATED HE SAW THE AIRCRAFT ENTER A VERTICAL CLIMB. HE LOOKED AWAY MOMENTARILY AND WHEN HE LOOKED BACK THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN A WINGS LEVEL ATTITUDE BUT IN A SPIN. HE HEARD THE ENGINE SOUND LIKE IT WAS REVVING UP AND DOWN SEVERAL TIMES. ACCORDING TO THE WITNESS THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO RECOVER FROM THE SPIN AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE AIRCRAFT WAS APPROXIMATELY 120 POUNDS OVER GROSS WEIGHT AND THE CENTER OF GRAVITY WAS BEYOND THE AFT LIMIT FOR ACROBATIC OPERATION. THE LAST MEDICAL CERTIFICATE WAS ISSUED TO THE PILOT 3/19/1985. INFORMATION RECEIVED DURING THE INVESTIGATION INDICATED THE PILOT HAD TRIPLE BY-PASS HEART SURGERY APPROXIMATELY 9 MONTHS PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05LA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05LA037), Dec 12, 2004: Crosley Christen Eagle II (N222CE), Morris, OK, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's intentional spin, which was unrecoverable due to exceeded aircraft weight and balance limitations as a result of improper preflight planning/preparation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
