## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) BASED ON TIRE MARKS AND GROUND SCARRING LEADING TO THE CRASH SITE, IT APPEARS THAT THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO LAND ON A SHORT TAXIWAY AT NIGHT UTILIZING THE LIGHTS ON THE SIDE OF THE TERMINAL BUILDING. THE AIRCRAFT LEFT THE TAXIWAY, TRAVELED THROUGH A GRASS AREA, WENT DOWN A WOODED HILLSIDE AND CAME TO REST WITH SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. TEH PILOT WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR COMMENT. SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS ACCIDENT. INJURY SUMMARY NOT KNOWN BY ASI.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB IAD05CA025](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/IAD05CA025), Dec 19, 2004: Smith, Ted Aerostar 601P (N60CF), Wheeling, WV, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot misjudged his distance/speed, and his intentional landing on an unsuitable taxiway at night. A factor in the accident was the night light conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
