## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N4822H WAS ENROUTE FROM SAN DIEGO, CA MONTGOMERY FIELD TO LINCOLN, CA RGNL UNDER IFR AT FL220 WHEN THE PILOT REPORTED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER FOLLOWED BY ENGINE FAILURE. THE AIRCRAFT DIVERTED TO BAKERSFIELD, CA MEADOWS FIELD AND LANDED SAFELY AT 1456PDT. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AS HE DESCENDED THROUGH 9000'. AFTER LANDING, THE ENGINE WAS FOUND TO OPERATE NORMALLY AND NO DISCREPANCIES WERE DISCOVERED DURING AN INSPECTION BY A CERTIFICATED MECHANIC. AT 1620PDT, THE PILOT DEPARTED UNDER IFR FROM BAKERSFIELD TO LINCOLN. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT WAS OPERATING UNDER INSTRUMENT METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS. AIRMET Z, IN EFFECT AT THE TIME OF THIS INCIDENT CALLED FOR ICING CONDITIONS ABOVE THE FREEZING LEVEL (6000'-8000') OVER THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. SEVERAL PILOT REPORTS IN THE VICINITY OF BAKERSFIELD INDICATED THAT RIME ICING WAS PRESENT. N4822H IS PROHIBITED FROM FLYING INTO KNOWN ICING CONDITIONS. (NOTE: THERE IS NO EVIDENCE THAT ICING CONDITIONS CAUSED THE ENGINE PROBLEM, HOWEVER THE AIRCRAFT WAS OPERATED OUTSIDE OF THE LIMITATIONS IN ITS FLIGHT MANUAL).

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
