## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DEPARTED AIRPORT FOR A FLIGHT IN THE LOCAL AREA. APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MINUTES INTO THE FLIGHT THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. THE PILOT WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 800 FT. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED ONE RESTART OF THE ENGINE TO NO AVAIL. THE AIRCRAFT WAS 2 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT AT 800 FT. THE PILOT DID NOT FEEL THAT A RETURN TO THE AIRPORT FOR LANDING WAS FEASIBLE. HE LOOKED AND NOTED A SALT MARSH THAT WAS FREE OF TREES. HE SET UP AND LANDED IN THE SALT MARSH. THE LANDING GEAR WAS TORN FROM THE AIRCRAFT AND THE FUSELAGE SEPARATED INTO 2 PIECES. THE PILOT SAFELY EGRESSED THE AIRCRAFT WITH NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL05CA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL05CA037), Jan 4, 2005: Stanley, Davey L Pulsar III (N6133U), Ocean Isle Beac, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate preflight planning of fuel required for the flight that resulted in fuel exhaustion and the subsequent loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
