## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND TO THE SOUTH AT THE UNATTENDED AIRPORT AFTER DARK. THE NEAREST REPORTED WIND WAS FROM THE NORTH AT 10 KNOTS, AT AN AIRPORT APPROXIMATELY 30 MILES AWAY. ON HIS THIRD ATTEMPT AT A DOWNWIND LANDING, HE TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT MIDFIELD AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, WENT OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND DOWN AN EMBANKMENT, DOING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRPLANE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA054](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA054), Jan 13, 2005: Cessna 152 (N714UV), Stockton, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to attain the proper touchdown point, which resulted in an overrun. Contributing factors were the tailwind and dusk light conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
