## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) WHILE RECEIVING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION WITH FULL TOUCH DOWN AUTO ROTATION LANDINGS, THE PILOT BEING TRAINED, IMPROPERLY APPLIED FORWARD CYCLIC APPROXIMATELY (1) FOOT ABOVE TOUCHING DOWN. THIS RESULTED IN THE FORWARD TIPS OF THE SKIDS ABRUPTLY CONTACTING THE GROUND FIRST AND CAUSING THE HELICOPTER TO BUCK BACKWARDS. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE MAIN ROTOR BLADE STRUCK THE TAIL BOOM CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE HELICOPTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05CA071](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05CA071), Jan 16, 2005: Robinson R22B (N1122R), Rialto, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the student pilot's improper use of the cyclic control during a practice autorotation, and the inadequate supervision by the certified flight instructor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
