## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CFI WAS INSTRUCTING AUTOROTATIONS 1/18/05 AT GPT. ON SECOND ATTEMPT THE ENTRY AND GLIDE WERE GOOD, THE STUDENT HAD THROTTLE CLOSED RATHER THAN LETTING THE GOVERNOR RUN RPM UP TO 104 PERCENT AS NORMAL, UPON RECOVERY. A HIGHER THAN NORMAL FLARE (10 FT) WAS COMPLETED WITHOUT POWER AND THE CFI TOOK THE CONTROLS AND BROUGHT THE HELICOPTER TO THE GROUND. A HARD LANDING RESULTED CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE SKIDS, TAIL BOOM AND FUSELAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

- [NTSB MIA05CA051](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA05CA051), Jan 18, 2005: Robinson R22 (N26498), Gulf Port, MS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's inadequate flare and his failure to maintain rotor rpm which resulted in a hard landing. Also causal was the instructor's inadequate supervision of the flight.
