## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FRIDAY, 21 JANUARY 2005, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS OPERATING HIS EXPERIMENTAL VELOCITY A/L RG AIRPLANE, N121HS ON HIS SECOND TEST FLIGHT OF THIS AIRCRAFT. AT APPROXIMATELY 11:50 EST, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ EXECUTED A LANDING AT THE SPRUCE CREEK FLY-IN COMMUNITY AIRPORT ON RUNWAY 23 IN GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS. DURING THE ROLL-OUT AFTER TOUCHDOWN THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AS IT WENT OFF THE RUNWAY TO THE RIGHT AND "GROUND LOOPED" IN THE GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ON IT'S LEFT SIDE ON THE BERM OF A RETENTION POND TO THE RIGHT OF RUNWAY 23. VFR METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME OF THE LANDING ACCIDENT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WITH NO INJURY TO THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA05CA053](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA05CA053), Jan 21, 2005: Lee Harold Swarthout Velocity Xlrg (N121HS), Daytona Beach, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The failure of the pilot-in-command to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing roll resulting in the on-ground collision with a fence and a ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
