## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON A FLIGHT FROM ATLANTIC CITY NJ (ACY) TO HOLLYWOOD FL. THE PRIVATE PILOT STATED HE WAS IN CRUISE FLIGHT (IN THE VICINITY OF WILMINGTON NC) AT 3,000 FEET FLIGHT FOLLOWING WITH AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL. THE ENGINE POWER DECREASED TO THE IDLE POSITION. HE APPLIED POWER AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN ENGINE POWER. THE AIRPLANE STARTED DESCENDING RAPIDLY. HE OBSERVED A HIGHWAY TO HIS FRONT AND A CAR GOING IN THE SAME DIRECTION. HE TURNED ON HIS LANDING LIGHT AND LOWERED THE LANDING GEAR IN PREPARATION FOR A FORCED LANDING ON THE HIGHWAY. AS HE WAS MAKING A "MAY DAY" CALL, HE LOST SIGHT OF THE CAR AND THE HIGHWAY. HE MADE A STEEP TURN TO THE LEFT AND OBSERVED THE HIGHWAY AND CONTINUED THE FORCED LANDING. THE RIGHT WING OF THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH A TREE AND THE GROUND. WHEN THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A STOP, HE NOTICED IT WAS ON FIRE. HE WAS UNABLE TO GET THE PASSENGER OUT OF THE AIRPLANE. HE EXITED THE AIRPLANE AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TRANSPORTED TO A LOCAL AREA HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. THE PASSENGER WAS FATALLY INJURED.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
