## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FEB. 3, 2005 AT 1610 EST, A 1946 ERCOUPE, 415-C SINGLE ENGINE AIRPLANE, N99452 WAS DESTROYED WHEN IT IMPACTED TERRAIN FOLLOWING A LOSS OF CONTROL WHILE IN THE AIRPORT TRAFFIC PATTERN AT THE AEX AIRPORT NEAR ALEXANDRIA, LA. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT WAS THE SOLE OCCUPANT AND WAS FATALLY INJURED. THE PILOT RADIOED HIS POSITION AT APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES FROM THE AIRPORT, ANOTHER RADIO CALL AT 2 MILES SOUTHEAST OF THE AIRPORT. SOON AFTER, THE PILOT TRANSMITTED HE WAS OVER THE FIELD AND SETTING UP FOR A LEFT DOWNWIND TO RUNWAY 32. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE CONTROLLER SAW THE AIRPLANE NOSE DOWNWARD AND IMPACT THE GROUND. AN ENFORCEMENT INVESTIGATION, THOUGH APPROPRIATE, IS NOT GOING TO BE PURSUED SINCE THE AIRMAN PERISHED. FURTHERMORE THE AUTOPSY RESULTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THE TIME OF THIS WRITING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05FA065](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05FA065), Feb 3, 2005: Ercoupe 415-C (N99452), Alexandria, LA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of control while maneuvering to land.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
