## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE CAPTAIN, PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMI^ NOTICED A NEED FOR AILERON TRIM ON HIS FIRST LEG OF THE DAY. HE FLEW FROM HYANNIS, MA (HYA) TO NANTUCKET, MA (ACK) IN TURBULENT CONDITIONS AND WAS THE ONLY PERSON ON BOARD. THE CONDITION WAS A HEAVY LEFT WING. HE CONTACTED THE DIRECTOR OF MAINTENANCE (DOM) ^PRIVACY DATA O^ AT HIS FIRST STOP AND REPORTED THE NEED FOR AILERON TRIM. NO AIRWORTHINESS ISSUES WERE IDENTIFIED AT THAT TIME. ON THE SECOND LEG, WITH NINE PASSENGERS ON BOARD, HE AGAIN NOTICED THE NEED FOR AILERON TRIM. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OM^ ALSO NOTICED THAT HE NEEDED UNUSUAL CONTROL AND TRIM INPUTS TO LEVEL OFF THE AIRPLANE. THE FLIGHT PROCEEDED UNEVENTFULLY TO THE PLANNED DESTINATION, HYANNIS, MA (HYA). THE NEXT DAY THE DOM WORKED ON THE AIRPLANE AND NOTICED TWO PULLED RIVETS. THIS LED TO FURTHER INVESTIGATION WHICH REVEALED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE FORWARD WING SPAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC05IA052](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC05IA052), Feb 11, 2005: Cessna 402C (N403BK), Hyannis, MA, incident, minor damage. Probable cause: The mechanic's inadequate inspection, which failed to discover cracks in the left wing spar around wing station 114.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
