## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT SAID THE ENGINE OF THE BEECHCRAFT SKIPPER FAILED IN CRUISE AT 1,000 FEET AGL AND HE WAS ABLE TO MAKE A FORCED LANDING ON THE SERVICE ROAD OF SH-288 JUST NORTH OF CR-44. AN EYEWITNESS DRIVING SOUTH ON SH-288 SAID THE AIRCRAFT "HIT GROUND HARDER THAN NORMAL LANDING, (AND) BOUNCED UP 6-8 (FEET)". DURING THE DOWNWIND LANDING TO THE NORTH THE LEFT WING STRUCK A SIGN POST AND THE LEFT WING WAS SHEARED OFF. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET FROM AN OCCUPIED HOME. THE PILOT SAID HE HAD FILLED THE FUEL TANKS A WEEK EARLIER BEFORE HIS PREVIOUS FLIGHT ON FEBRUARY 6TH, BUT THE FAA INSPECTOR ON-SCENE FOUND NO VISIBLE FUEL IN THE RIGHT WING FUEL TANK AND DRAINED ONLY 1/4 CUP OF CLEAN BLUE GASOLINE FROM THE RIGHT WING FUEL SUMP DRAIN, DRAINED ONLY A TEASPOON OF CLEAN BLUE GASOLINE FROM THE CARBURETOR FUEL DRAIN, AND FOUND NO FUEL IN THE LEFT WING. THE LEFT WING WAS SHEARED OFF THE AIRCRAFT DURING THE EMERGENCY LANDING AND THE RESPONDING FIREFIGHTERS HAD EARLIER CLEANED UP A FUEL SPILL OF GASOLINE AND WATER FROM THE MUDDY AREA AROUND THE LEFT WING THAT TOTALED AN APPROXIMATE FLUID VOLUME OF ONLY TWO GALLONS OF MOSTLY WATER COMBINED WITH FUEL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA068](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA068), Feb 13, 2005: Beech BE77 (N6717S), Angleton, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power as result of fuel exhaustion due to the pilot's improper in-flight planning. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
