## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, AFTER LANDING THE AIRPLANE ROLLED ABOUT 500 FEET ALONG THE RUNWAY; WITHOUT WARNING THE AIRPLANE BEGAN AN UNCOMMANDED VEER TO THE RIGHT. LEFT RUDDER AND LEFT BRAKE WAS APPLIED SEVERAL TIMES TO CORRECT, BUT THE AIRPLANE DID NOT RESPOND TO THE CONTROL INPUTS. THE AIRPLANE ROTATED TO THE RIGHT; SUBSEQUENTLY, THE LEFT LANDING GEAR FOLDED UNDER THE PLANE ALLOWING IT TO FALL TO THE GROUND. THIS CAUSED BREAKAGE OF THE LEFT WING AT THE FORWARD SPAR OUTBOARD OF THE LIFT STRUT. (A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DAMAGES INVENTORIED BY AN AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTOR ARE ATTACHED). THE AIRPLANE CAME TO A STOP AT THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY AND PARTIALLY INTO THE GRASS. THE AIRPLANE HAD ROTATED CLOCKWISE APPROXIMATELY 115 DEGREES RELATIVE TO THE INITIAL LANDING DIRECTION. POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION BY AN AIRWORTHINESS INSPECTOR REVEALED INTERNAL RUST AND DETERIORATION IN THE STEEL TUBE OF THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR WHERE IT HAD BROKEN. IT COULD NOT BE DETERMINED IF THE LANDING GEAR TUBE FAILED DURING THE LANDING OR IF THE SIDE LOADS DURING THE LANDING ROLL CAUSED IT TO FAIL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA05LA062](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA05LA062), Feb 22, 2005: Howard DGA-15 (N68431), Daytona Beach, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: Maintenance personnel failure to detect corrosion in the landing gear strut, resulting in the gear collapsing during landing and damage to the airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
