## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FUEL MANAGEMENT-PILOT WAS RUNNING ON AUXILIARY FUEL TANK. WHEN ENGINE SPUTTERED AND LOST POWER, PILOT MOVED FUEL SELECTOR FROM AUXILIARY TANK TO MAIN FUEL TANK. PILOT WAS AT AN ALTITUDE OF 3,000 FEET WHICH IS ABOUT 2,200 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. HE TRIED TO RESTART ENGINE WHEN IT WOULD NOT START, HE STARTED TO LOOK FOR A LANDING SITE, IN THE DARK (2100).

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL05CA056](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL05CA056), Mar 4, 2005: Bellanca 17-30A (N4024B), Eagleville, TN, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's mismanagement of the fuel supply by his failure to switch the fuel selector position , which resulted in a loss of engine power due to fuel starvation.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
