## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 5 MARCH 2005, AN EXPERIMENTAL GLIDER CRASHED SHORT OF THE SEMINOL LAKE GLIDER PORT NEAR CLERMONT, FL. PILOT WAS RETURNING FROM A CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT WHEN HE ENCOUNTERED SEVERAL OTHER GLIDERS IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO SEQUENCE HIMSELF FOR LANDING, HOWEVER MISJUDGED THE SPEED AND ALTITUDE REQUIRED TO LAND SUCCESSFULLY. PILOT ENTERED BASE TURN FROM DOWNWIND LEG OF TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 18 AND STALLED THE AIRCRAFT. AIRCRAFT IMPACTED TREES IN A NEAR VERTICAL ATTITUDE AND CAME TO REST ONE HALF MILE SHORT OF RUNWAY. PILOT EXITED AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY. AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA05CA074](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA05CA074), Mar 5, 2005: Dgflugzeugbau DG-800S (N92DG), Clermont, FL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilots failure to maintain airspeed which resulted in the glider stalling and impact with trees during the uncontrolled descent.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
