## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STARTED TAKEOFF ROLL ON RW25 AT OXNARD AIRPORT AT APPROXIMATELY 2105 PST. DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL THE PILOT FIRST NOTICED SOME BRIGHT WHITE FLASHES AND THEN SMOKE COMING FROM BEHIND AND THE TOP OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE PILOT ABORTED THE TAKEOFF BY PULLING BACK THE THROTTLE TO GROUND IDLE, MIXTURE TO IDLE CUT OFF, TURNED OFF MASTER ELECTRICAL POWER AND TURNED OFF BOTH MAGNETOS. ONCE THE AIRCRAFT WAS STOPPED, THE PILOT AND PASSENGERS EVACUATED THE AIRPLANE. THE PILOT THEN DISCHARGED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER INTO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, PULLED THE AIRCRAFT CLEAR OF RUNWAY 25 AND CALLED 911 ON HIS CELL PHONE FOR THE OXNARD FIRE DEPARTMENT. WHILE WAITING FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO ARRIVE THE SMOKE FROM BEHIND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTENSIFIED AND THEN BURST INTO FLAMES AND FIRE BURNED FROM THE PANEL TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE PLANE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. THE PILOT WAS TREATED FOR SMOKE INHALATION AT THE SCENE. END NONE TO FOLLOW.
