## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT, FLYING HIS HILLER UH-12B HELICOPTER, WAS PERFORMING TOUCH AND GO TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS AT JACQUELINE COCHRAN REGIONAL AIRPORT IN THERMAL, CALIFORNIA. DURING HIS SECOND LANDING THE AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AND LANDED HARD. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR PASSENGER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS ON ITS FIRST FLIGHT FOLLOWING AN ANNUAL INSPECTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA112](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA112), Mar 12, 2005: Hiller UH-12B (N5311V), Thermal, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate in-flight planning and failure to refuel the helicopter, which resulted in fuel exhaustion.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
