## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS AT FLIGHT IDLE ON OIL RIG ST220. PILOT HAD HIS HEAD DOWN, AND WRITING IN HIS LOG, WHEN HE FELT AN UNCOMMANDED LIFT TO THE REAR. HE COMPENSATED BY PULLING UP ON THE COLLECTIVE, ADJUSTING THE THROTTLE TO OPEN, AND MOVING HIS CYCLIC FORWARD. AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RIG AND IMPACTED THE WATER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA088](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA088), Mar 13, 2005: Bell B-206L-1 (N480RA), Galliano, LA, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's abrupt input of the collective while the main rotor RPM was at idle, which resulted in a separation of the tail boom.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
