## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRMAN'S COMPETENCY IS IN QUESTION AS HIS AIRCRAFT'S ENGINE EXPERIENCED A POWER LOSS IN-FLIGHT, THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY, RELEASED HIS BANNER AND ACCEPTED VECTORS FOR A LANDING AT CHARLOTTE DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (KCLT). THE ENGINE POWER RETURNED AND THE LANDING WAS UNEVENTFUL. THE PILOT TAXIED TO THE FBO, REFUELED HIS AIRCRAFT, CHECKED ALL FUEL FOR CONTAMINATION AND TAXIED OUT FOR DEPARTURE. HE INITIATED A TAKEOFF ROLL ON RUNWAY 23 AND ABORTED THE TAKEOFF REQUESTING RUNWAY 36R. THE PILOT THEN INITIATED HIS TAKEOFF ROLL FROM 36R MADE AN UNEVENTFUL DEPARTURE UNTIL ABOUT 2 NAUTICAL MILES NE OF CLT WHEN THE ENGINE HAD A COMPLETE POWER LOSS FOR THE SECOND TIME CAUSING THE PILOT TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A PARKING LOT AT A STRIP MALL. UPON BRAKING THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A CURBED ISLAND, HIT A THREE FOOT DIAMETER ROCK, NOSED THE AIRCRAFT OVER AND STRUCK A PARKED SUV.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL05CA063](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL05CA063), Mar 18, 2005: Cessna 175 (N7148M), Charlotte, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to follow the checklist by his failure to verify the fuel selector was in the on position which resulted in fuel starvation and the loss of engine power.

## Other reports on N7148M (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20030901031969I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20030901031969I), Sep 1, 2003: Cessna 175 (N7148M), Sandy Hook, NJ. (-23) Pilot became disoriented due to bad weather and made precautionary landing in Sandy Hook national parking lot "c" no damage to aircraft, no injuries.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
