## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE ENGINE BEGAN RUNNING ERRATICALLY AND LOSING POWER FOUR MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF. HE WAS UNABLE TO SUSTAIN FLIGHT AND ELECTED TO LAND IN A HARVESTED CORN FIELD. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR BROKE OFF, AND THE AIRPLANE FLIPPED OVER. THE INVESTIGATION REVEALED SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF WATER IN THE RIGHT FUEL TANK, FROM WHICH FUEL HAD BEEN SELECTED. THE AIRPLANE HAD SAT OUTSIDE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE YEARS WITHOUT BEING FLOWN AND HAD NOT UNDERGONE AN ANNUAL INSPECTION IN 4-1/2 YEARS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05LA079](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05LA079), Mar 24, 2005: Cessna 210E (N2380F), Bronson, MI, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate preflight preparation which failed to detect contaminated fuel that led to a loss of engine power. The unsuitable terrain encountered was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
