## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UPON LANDING THREE (#3) AS THE FRONT WHEEL LEFT THE RUNWAY THE PILOT FELT AN UNUSUAL THUMP DURING CLIMB-OUT. THE AIRCRAFT MADE A NOTICEABLE YAW TO THE LEFT. AT APPROXIMATELY 700'MSL IN-FLIGHT CONTROL BECAME DIFFICULT, UNABLE TO TRACK STRAIGHT OR LEVEL WITH A RIGHT WING LOW, SLIPPING. UPON LANDING ON RUNWAY 34, THE AIRCRAFT STARTED VIBRATING VIOLENTLY. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO HOLD THE NOSE WHEEL OFF WHILE APPLYING BRAKES WITHOUT STEERING CONTROL. THE SLOWER THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED THE MORE VIOLENT THE VIBRATION GOT. AT ABOUT 5 MPH THE AIRCRAFT VEERED LEFT AND TIPPED TO THE RIGHT PROPELLER AND THE RIGHT WING CONTACTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE. RESULTING IN MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING TIP (2 FEET) AND PROPELLER TIPS (8") BENT 90 DEGREES AFT. SHIMMING DAMPENER ASSEMBLY WAS TORN OFF AND BOTH STEERING LINK ROD ENDS SHEARED OFF AT JAM NUT THREADED LINK TO NOSE GEAR HARD POINT ATTACHMENT. POSSIBLE CAUSE FACTORS A MATERIAL FAILURE OF RIGHT ROD END LINK ASSEMBLIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA125), Mar 27, 2005: Cessna 182 (N5748B), Sacramento, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: a fatigue failure of the right side steering link rod for the nose landing gear steering system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
