## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UNABLE TO COMPLETE INVESTIGATION AT THIS TIME AS I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET THE INFORMATION FROM THE PIC OF THE ACCIDENT. (-23 AMENDMENT) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY ^ LANDED HIS OVERSIZED TIRES EQUIPPED PA-18 AT THE BETHEL, ALASKA AIRPORT. THE WIND AT THE TIME WAS A QUARTERING HEADWIND. ON TOUCHDOWN THE WIND SHIFTED TO A QUARTERING TAILWIND. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY ^ NOT ACCUSTOMED TO LANDING ON HARD SURFACED RUNWAYS WITH OVERSIZED TIRES LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL, EXITING THE RUNWAY AND FLIPPING THE AIRCRAFT OVER ON ITS BACK. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT OCCURED WITH NO INJURY TO THE PIC.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC05CA054](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC05CA054), Apr 4, 2005: Piper PA-18 (N9091D), Bethel, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to compensate for a crosswind during an aborted landing, which resulted in a loss of directional control. A factor associated with the accident was a crosswind.

## Other reports on N9091D (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.
