## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AS REPORTED BY MOLINE ATCT, ON APRIL 5, 2005, MESABA FLIGHT #3637 REPORTED A NUMBER ONE ENGINE FIRE WARNING ILLUMINATED AFTER DEPARTURE AT APPROXIMATELY 200' AGL. AT APPROXIMATELY 500'-600' AGL THE INDICATION OF A FIRE WAS NO LONGER PRESENT. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. EXAMINATION BY MAINTENANCE REVEALED THE RIGHT HAND (P/N 2-163-620-37) FUEL MANIFOLD WAS LEAKING FUEL, (SEE HONEYWELL SB72-1094). IT APPEARS THE MANIFOLDS, PART NUMBERS 2-163-620-37 (RH) AND 2-163-620-38 (LH), AND THEIR ASSOCIATED FUEL NOZZLES INSTALLED AS THE CLOSING ACTION FOR AD 97-11-05, ARE LOSING TORQUE AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3000 CYCLES. THIS CAUSES THE MANIFOLD FUEL NOZZLES TO LOOSEN DURING HI-POWER ENGINE OPERATION (TAKE-OFF AND CLIMB) RESULTING IN FUEL SPRAYING INTO THE ENGINE COWL. THIS FUEL IS IGNITED AND THE RESULTING FIRE CAUSED THE FIRE WARNING ILLUMINATION. TO DATE REDUCING ENGINE POWER HAS EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES BUT THE POTENTIAL FOR A CATASTROPHIC EVENT IS EVIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
