## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT/MECHANIC REMOVED AND REPLACED #2 EXHAUST CYLINDER PUSHROD AND RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE ON A 91 FLIGHT PRIOR TO MAKING A LOG BOOK ENTRY. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES AFTER DEPARTURE HE EXPERIENCED ENGINE PROBLEMS AND RETURNED TO SEMINOLE-LAKE GLIDER PORT AND STALLED THE AIRCRAFT PRIOR TO LANDING INTO THE TREES. THE AIRCRAFT HAD SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AND THE PILOT, SINGLE OCCUPANT WAS NOT INJURED. NO PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION BY THE FAA WAS PERFORMED TO DETERMINE WHY THE ENGINE WAS NOT FUNCTIONING AS DESIGNED. NO OBVIOUS ENGINE DEFECTS WERE NOTED. THE NTSB INVESTIGATION INTO THE ENGINE FAILURE WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED AT A LATER DATE AND THIS FORM WILL BE AMENDED AFTER COMPLETION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot's poorly planned approach during a precautionary landing following partial loss of engine power resulting in a go-around and subsequent in-flight collision with trees. A contributing factor…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
