THE AIRCRAFT THEN ENTERED A SMALL DITCH BESIDE THE RUNWAY THAT WAS SOFT AND MUDDY. THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER ONTO ITS BACK. THE PROPELLER, LANDING GEAR AND WINGS WERE DAMAGED SUBSTANTIALLY. THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A SMALL BUMP ON HIS HEAD. HE WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT OF HIS AIRCRAFT, WHICH HE HAD BUILT. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT HIS LAST FLIGHT REVIEW HAD OCCURRED IN 2002.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI05CA098](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI05CA098), Apr 16, 2005: Curl Avid Air Magnum (N774CA), Cando, ND, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to compensate for the crosswind condition and maintain directional control during landing rollout. Factors to the accident were the crosswind and the muddy drainage ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
