## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 20, 2005 AT APPROXIMATELY 16:50 LOCAL TIME, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ TOOK OFF FROM FESTUS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (FES) FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT IN A CESSNA CE-150, REGISTRATION #N45522, WITH ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ RIDING AS A PASSENGER. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ HAD TAKEN OFF FROM FESTUS AIRPORT JUST PRIOR TO A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM MOVING INTO THE AREA. ACCORDING TO THE LAST RECORDED HOBBS TIME IN THE AIRCRAFT FLIGHT LOG AND THE HOBBS TIME RECORDED AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE, THE AIRCRAFT WAS IN THE AIR APPROXIMATELY 6 MINUTES. DURING AN INTERVIEW WITH ^PRIVACY DATA^ (PASSENGERS WIFE), SHE STATED THAT HER HUSBAND TOLD HER THAT WHILE TRYING TO MAKE IT BACK TO THE AIRPORT ON THE LAST BANK TO LAND THEY WERE HIT BY A NASTY CROSSWIND. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ SUBSEQUENTLY LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT AND CRASHED APPROXIMATELY 36 FEET LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ WAS FATALLY INJURED AND ^PRIVACY DAT^ RECIEVED SERIOUS INJURIES AND WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. NONE OF THE AVAILABLE WEATHER REPORTING SERVICES AVAILABLE AT FESTUS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT WERE USED AND THERE WAS NO RECORD THAT THE PILOT REQUESTED A WEATHER BRIEFING OR FILED A FLIGHT PLAN.

## NTSB investigation

None matched to this report by aircraft and date. Search the NTSB's own records: https://data.ntsb.gov/carol-main-public/basic-search

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
