## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON APRIL 25, 2005, AT 0740 EDT, NORTHWEST 1049, N88934E, A DC-9 DEPARTED KPIT FOR KDTW AND RETURNED TO LAND @ KPIT INDICATING A COMPRESSOR STALL. THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO THE RAMP UNASSISTED (LOG PAGE 3095845). PRELIMINARY INSPECTION BY JET CARE, A CONTRACT MAINTENANCE FACILITY @ KPIT, FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE OIL. NWAA DISPATCHED A MAINTENANCE TEAM TO KPIT FOR AN ENGINE CHANGE. THIS OFFICE INTERVIEWED THE NWAA INSPECTOR WHO INSPECTED THE ENGINE CHANGE. NWAA INSPECTOR ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED, "THE CHANGE WAS BROUGHT ABOUT BY METAL FOUND IN THE OIL FROM THE 13TH STAGE." ENGINE SWAP WAS COMPLETED ON APRIL 27, 2005, AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS R.T.S. ON THAT DATE. FLIGHT CREW ACTIONS OR LACK OF ACTIONS DID NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THIS INCIDENT. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ SUBMISSION OF THIS REPORT CLOSES THIS INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
