## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED TOMBSTONE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT FOR A LOCAL FLIGHT. WITNESSES SAW THE AIRCRAFT OVER THE TOWN OF TOMBSTONE. ANOTHER WITNESS OBSERVED THE AIRCRAFT STALL AND NOSE DOWN AND CRASH NEAR THE AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS EQUIPPED WITH A BALLISTIC PARACHUTE RECOVERY SYSTEM. THE LANYARD WAS PULLED ACCORDING TO SHERIFF PERSONNEL, BUT THE ROCKET MOTOR HAD NOT FIRED AND THE PARACHUTE HAD NOT DEPLOYED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA149](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA149), Apr 27, 2005: Schlitter Randy J Rans S6ES Coyote II (N32050), Tombstone, AZ, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: loss of engine power for undetermined reasons and the flying pilot's failure to maintain an adequate airspeed that resulted in a stall and uncontrolled descent into terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
