## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT IN CRUISE FLIGHT NEARING TILLAMOOK AIRPORT WHEN ENGINE FAILED, PILOT PERFORMED EMERGENCY LANDING ON HIGHWAY, NO DAMAGE TO AIRFRAME, AND NO DAMAGE TO OTHER PROPERTY. AIRCRAFT MOVED OFF HIGHWAY AFTER INCIDENT TO FREE UP TRAFFIC. TEARDOWN OF ENGINE REVEALED BROKEN CAMSHAFT LIFTERS, AND EXCESSIVE WEAR ON A PISTON PIN THRUST PLUG. AT SOME POINT PREVIOUS TO THIS FLIGHT THE ENGINE HAD LIKELY BEEN OVERSPEEDED, CAUSING CONNECTING ROD PARTS TO BE DISPLACED. EXCESSIVE WEAR ON PISTON PLUG CONTRIBUTED TO LIFTER FAILURE. ENGINE HAD 1500 HOURS SINCE MAJOR OVERHAUL IN 1990.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
