## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) FOLLOWING TAKE-OFF (AT 60 FEET ABOVE GROUND LEVEL) A LOUD BANG WAS HEARD FOLLOWED BY A MAJOR LOSS OF ENGINE POWER THAT WOULD NOT ALLOW THE AIRCRAFT TO MAINTAIN ALTITUDE. THE AIRCRAFT INCURRED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE WHILE MAKING AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A DRY RICE FIELD. ENGINE INSPECTION REVEALED A FRACTURE BETWEEN THE TWO SPARK PLUG HOLES OF THE NUMBER SEVEN ENGINE CYLINDER. TOTAL ENGINE AND CYLINDER TIME SINCE OVERHAUL WAS 1373 HOURS. THE PILOT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA152](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA152), Apr 30, 2005: Grumman G-164A (N5304), Yuba City, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: a partial loss of engine power due to multiple cracks in the number 7 cylinder. The reasons for the cracks were not determined

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
