## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N763NC, OPERATING AS NWA1495, ON A FLIGHT FROM CMH TO MSP, LOST PRESSURE SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE IN THE RIGHT HYDRAULIC SYSTEM DUE TO A LEAK CAUSED BY A CRACK IN THE HOUSING OF THE RUDDER SHUT OFF VALVE. AFTER LANDING AT MSP, THE AIRCRAFT WAS TAXIIED TOWARD ITS ASSIGNED GATE #7. THE CAPTAIN ELECTED TO TAXI ON A SINGLE ENGINE AND SHUT DOWN THE LEFT ENGINE THEREBY DISABLING THE LEFT HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. THE SUBSEQUENT EFFORTS TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT FROM ROLLING FORWARD WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AND IT ROLLED ONTO N368NB, AN AIRBUS A-319, OPERATING AS NWA 1849. THE AIRBUS HAD BEEN PUSHED BACK FROM GATE #10 AND WAS PREPARING TO TAXI FOR DEPARTURE WHEN IT WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND BY THE DC-9, WHICH DAMAGED THE UNDERSIDE OF ITS TAIL, RIGHT WING INBOARD AILERON AND FLAP, AND RUPTURED THE WING FUEL TANK. THE DC-9 SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE TOP SURFACE OF THE COCKPIT, L-1 DOOR, AND UPPER SURFACE OVER THE RIGHT SIDE EMERGENCY WING EXITS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
