## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 11, 2005, ABOUT 1915 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME, AN AMATEUR-BUILT RV-6A AIRPLANE N42RZ, WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED DURING A FORCED LANDING. THE PRIVATE PILOT STATED THAT HE DEPARTED NEW GARDEN AIRPORT, N57, FOR A TEST FLIGHT TO CHECK A PREVIOUS VAPOR LOCK PROBLEM WITH THE AIRCRAFT. HE CLIMBED TO 3000 FEET AND DID SLOW FLIGHT FOR SEVERAL MINUTES AND A FULL POWER OFF STALL. DURING A DESCENT TO 2000 FEET, THE PILOT NOTICED A POWER LOSS. HE SWITCHED FUEL TANKS AND SELECTED FULL RICH MIXTURE AND CHECKED THAT THE BOOST PUMP WAS ON. THE POWER LOSS CONTINUED AND THE PILOT ELECTED TO ATTEMPT AN OFF AIRPORT LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN A SOFT FIELD, ROLLED 300 FEET AND BOUNCED BACK INTO THE AIR AFTER HITTING A DITCH. AFTER THE BOUNCE, THE NOSE GEAR DUG IN AND THE AIRCRAFT FLIPPED OVER ONTO ITS BACK. THE ENGINE WAS SUCCESSFULLY STARTED AND RUN THE NEXT DAY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
