## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) 3000 FEET AGL THE LEFT ENGINE SHUT DOWN, MANY ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO RESTART THE ENGINE BUT ALL FAILED. THE PILOT TURNED THE AIRCRAFT TRYING TO MAKE SELIGMAN AIRPORT (P23). THE PILOT TRIED THREE TIMES TO PUT THE LANDING GEAR DOWN DURING APPROACH BUT ALL FAILED. THE FIRST TRY WAS WITH THE AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR HANDLE, THE EMERGENCY LANDING GEAR HYDRAULIC SYSTEM WAS USED NEXT THE GEAR STILL DID NOT COME DOWN, THE LAST ATTEMPT WAS WITH THE EMERGENCY LANDING GEAR BLOW DOWN BOTTLE, THIS ALSO FAILED TO PUT THE GEAR DOWN COMPLETELY. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE GROUND WITH ONLY THE RIGHT MAIN DOWN. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO UNDER CARRIAGE AND BOTH ENGINES AND PROPELLERS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX05LA168](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX05LA168), May 14, 2005: Piper PA-23-250 (N30YC), Seligman, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's fuel system mismanagement that led to a fuel starvation induced loss of power in the left engine. Also causal was the pilot's improper use of the emergency landing gear extension system.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
