## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 15, 2005, AT 1915 CENTRAL DAYLIGHT TIME, A PIPER PA-J4E, REGISTERED TO THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CRASHED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO AVOID OBSTRUCTIONS WHILE ON TAKE OFF. THE PILOT STATED HE BEGAN THE TAKE OFF ROLL AND STARTED TO ROTATED THE AIRCRAFT AROUND 50 MPH WHEN THE AIRSPEED BEGAN TO DECREASE. AT THIS POINT THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE DID NOT BELIEVE HE WOULD HAVE ENOUGH ALTITUDE TO CLEAR THE TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO ABORT THE TAKE OFF. UPON ATTEMPTING TO ABORT THE TAKE OFF THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL05CA080](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL05CA080), May 16, 2005: Piper J4E (N35920), Akron, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's premature liftoff and his failure to attain adequate airspeed which resulted in a stall/mush. Also causal was the pilot's delay in aborting the takeoff.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
