## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT HAD DEPARTED REXBURG, IDAHO AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND AT DRIGGS, IDAHO WITH THREE PASSENGERS. UPON ARRIVAL AT DRIGGS HE ENTERED THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 21. THE PILOT STATED THE WINDS APPEARED TO BE AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE WITH THE LANDING RUNWAY AND BLOWING AT 6-8 KNOTS. UPON TOCHDOWN THE PILOT STATES THAT AIRCRAFT'S NOSE BEGAN TO YAW TO THE LEFT BECAUSE IT WAS BEING AFFECTED BY THE CROSSWIND. THE PILOT STATED HE OVERCORRECTED WITH TOO MUCH RIGHT RUDDER AND THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED TO THE RIGHT AND THE NOSE NOW DID A COMPLETE REVERSAL. DURING THE GROUND LOOP THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR ASSEMBLY FOLDED UNDER THE FUSELAGE CAUSING THE LEFT WING TIP TO DRAG ON THE GROUND AND ALSO CAUSED SOME STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA05LA101](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA05LA101), May 21, 2005: Maule M-4-220C (N40318), Driggs, ID, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to compensate for wind conditions, which resulted in a ground loop/swerve during the landing roll. A crosswind was a factor.

## Other reports on N40318 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19940314004929A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19940314004929A), Mar 14, 1994: Maule M4220C (N40318), Duboise, ID, Substantial damage. Struck power line and crashed while maneuvering at a low altitude.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
