## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON MAY 24, 2005, AT 1300 CDT, AFTER TAKEOFF, A GRUMMAN "AG CAT" G-164B, N3629K, STRUCK A TREE AND 4 SMALL POWER LINES APPROXIMATELY 0.85 MILES SOUTHWEST OF THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY. THE COMMERCIAL PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT, WAS NOT INJURED AND THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED AS AN AERIAL APPLICATION FLIGHT BY RANDY SCOTT FLYING SERVICE (D/B/A)(VSVG), UNDER 14 CFR PART 137 WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED ON A DIRT RUNWAY (04-22) AT FONTAINE, ARKANSAS, AT 1300 CDT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME AND NO FLIGHT PLAN WAS FILED. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE EXECUTED A DOWNWIND TAKEOFF (WIND 10 MPH OUT OF NORTH) WITH A FULL HOPPER OF NITROGEN UREA PELLETIZED FERTILIZER. THE PILOT STATED HE REALIZED THE AIRPLANE WAS NOT GAINING SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE, SO HE STARTED DUMPING THE LOAD, BUT IT DID NOT RESPOND BY INCREASING ITS CLIMB RATE. IT FLEW 0.85 MILES BEFORE STRIKING A TREE AND 4 SMALL POWER LINES APPROXIMATELY 40 FEET AGL. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET SOUTH OF THE TREES INTO A RICE FIELD.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA133](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA133), May 24, 2005: Grumman 164-B (N3629K), Fontaine, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance during a downwind takeoff with a full load of fertilizer. Factor contributing to the accident were the prevailing tailwind and the high density altitude.

## Other reports on N3629K (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19850726034299A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19850726034299A), Jul 26, 1985: Scwzer G164B (N3629K), Samson, AL, Substantial damage. During swath run engine ran rough and quit. Struck powerline during landing. Mechanical malfunction undetermined.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System.
