## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) 05/26/05, APPROX. 15:30, N93982, A PZL-M-18 DORMADER OPERATED BY HOXIE FLYING SERVICE CRASHED ON TAKE OFF FROM A GRASS STRIP IN CLOVER BEND, ARKANSAS. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND NO FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED. AIRCRAFT HAD MADE NUMEROUS TAKE OFF AND LANDINGS ON SAME STRIP DURING THE COURSE OF THE DAY. PILOT STATED THAT JUST AFTER LIFT OFF, EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AND AT ABOUT 10 FEET OFF THE RUNWAY THE RIGHT WING WAS HIT BY WHAT HE REFERRED TO AS A SMALL TWISTED (COMMONLY KNOWN AS A DUST DEVIL) CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO YAW TO THE RIGHT AND LOSE SPEED. HE STATED HE WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN SPEED AND RT WING TIP CONTACTED THE GROUND THEN RT MAIN LANDING GEAR, AIRCRAFT TURNED 90 DEGREES AND SLID SIDEWAYS CONTACTING A RICE LEVY AND AN ACCESS ROAD LEVY. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST ACROSS THE ACCESS ROAD SUSTAINING SUBTANTIAL DAMAGE WITH NO INJURIES TO PILOT. PILOT ALSO STATES THAT ALL FLIGHT CONTROLS AND ENGINE WERE OPERATING PROPERLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW05CA137](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW05CA137), May 26, 2005: PZL-Mielec M18 (N93982), Clover Bend, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during takeoff. A contributing factor was the dust devil (whirlwind) encountered.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
