## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA ^ IN PREPARATION FOR LANDING THE PILOT STARTED THE APU. WHILE TURNING BASE TO FINAL FOR THE VISUAL APPROACH THEY RECEIVED A EICAS WARNING FOR APU OVERHEAT. THEY DECLARED THE EMERGENCY WITH SPI TOWER AND HAD THEM DISPATCH THE FIRE TRUCKS AS A PRECAUTION. WITH NOT MUCH TIME TO ACCOMPLISH THE QRH THEY DECIDED TO LAND AND TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM ON THE GROUND. AFTER LANDING AND BEGINNING QRH PROCEDURES, THE APU SHUT DOWN ON ITS OWN AND THERE WAS NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. THE APU WAS SUBSEQUENTLY MEL'D AND THEY RETURNED TO ORD. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
